A complete restaurant and bar transformation, bringing new life to a 1955 property through thoughtful space planning, custom design and a warm, character-rich approach to hospitality.
Built in 1955, the Picture Butte Hotel required an extensive renovation to re imagine its existing restaurant and bar for a new generation of guests.
The vision was to create a warm and welcoming destination with the character and comfort of an established pub, while introducing a more functional floor plan, family-friendly dining, an expanded commercial kitchen and improved bar operations.
Working within an older commercial property meant looking well beyond the aesthetics. The main level required significant reconfiguration to improve circulation, increase kitchen capacity and create better connections between the restaurant, bar and washroom facilities, while addressing current building and permit requirements.
The restaurant and bar also needed to feel distinct in their purpose while remaining visually connected, with the flexibility to come together for entertainment and larger gatherings.
The main level was completely reimagined through a new floor plan designed around both the guest experience and the operational needs of a busy restaurant.
The bar became a defining feature of the interior, with its layout carefully considered for efficient service and workflow. Custom oak millwork, rich glazed tile, heritage-inspired metal detailing and integrated lighting create a layered focal point with a sense of permanence and craftsmanship.
Throughout the restaurant, exposed brick wallcoverings, natural wood, muted green tones and distinctive pendant lighting establish a warm, relaxed atmosphere. The dining area takes on a lighter character, where generous natural light and softer finishes create an inviting, family-friendly setting while remaining connected to the richer palette of the bar.
Behind the scenes, an expanded commercial kitchen and thoughtfully planned service areas support the practical demands of hospitality, ensuring the design works as beautifully operationally as it does visually.
The result is a restaurant that feels warm, established and authentic—respecting the character of its 1955 setting while providing the functionality and experience expected of a contemporary hospitality space.
