BRIEF
Twisted Hair Salon wanted to transform an existing two-bay salon in south Lethbridge. The space had served as a salon for many years, which gave the project a strong starting point. However, it needed a full update to meet the client’s vision and standards.
The brief called for a more open, refined, and high-functioning salon. The plan needed room for stylists, barbers, wash stations, reception, retail, and beauty services. The client also wanted better flow between the two bays.
The design direction centred on a black, white, and grey palette. The client wanted an elegant salon with a glamorous feel. The two sides needed to connect through shared finishes and details. At the same time, each side needed its own mood. The barber side would feel more masculine, while the salon side would feel softer and more feminine.
CHALLENGES
The main challenge was to create a fresh salon within an existing commercial shell. The team had to work around key services, including plumbing, wash stations, bathrooms, panels, and hot water tanks. Each decision had to balance design goals with cost, code, and daily use.
The client also wanted a larger opening between the two bays. This would help create a stronger open-concept layout. It also required careful review of structure, permits, and budget impact.
The front of the salon needed more visual impact as well. It had to attract attention and support the salon’s brand. The final design needed to feel bold, polished, and practical without losing sight of the budget.
SOLUTION
The completed salon delivers a polished and glamorous space with a strong sense of flow. Warm wood-look flooring connects the two bays and softens the overall palette. Black salon chairs, oversized mirrors, grey walls, and white details create a clean and refined base.
The design also adds moments of luxury throughout the space. Pink glass pendants, a black chandelier, glossy displays, and layered wall finishes bring character and style. The reception and waiting area now create a strong first impression. Retail shelving, lounge seating, branded signage, and a fireplace feature make the entry feel warm and inviting.
The final layout solves the needs of a busy salon. Styling stations, barber stations, wash areas, retail, reception, and waiting spaces each have a clear purpose. Yet the full space still feels connected and cohesive.
The design also answers the original brief for two distinct moods. Dark tile, wood details, and black accents support the barber side. Softer lighting, white display cabinetry, and refined finishes elevate the salon side. In-Awe Interiors completed the project on time and on budget. The result is a stylish, functional salon that supports both the client experience and the daily work of the team.
